At the conclusion of this workshop, students will understand the basic skills necessary for getting, keeping and doing well on a job.

Training body

Unit 1 – Self Development for world of work.

Unit summary and entry requirements (if applicable): The main objective of this unit is for the students to understand and prepare aportfolio on how they evaluate themselves and develop for world of workwhile studying in the university.

Learning outcome 1: Analyse importance of inter-personal skills

1.1 Students to actively interact with each other and  recollecttwo of their memorable experiences that could help identifying importance of  inter-personal skills.

1.2 Each of the Studenttowrite at least one note of 50 words or more that helped them improve inter-personal skills while interacting with others

Learning outcome 2: Analyse importance of inter-personal skills.

1.1 Prepare power point presentation of not more than 10 minutes on relevance of clear, concise and logical communication for business in service sector.

1.2 Learners to write about effectiveness of e-communication and their experiences through  blog or e-portfolio.

Learning outcome 3: Prepare self  development plan.

1.1 Analyse self and identify at least three improvement areas for self-development.

1.2 Work in groups to identify 5 key qualities to be a successful in world of work.

The individual essay plan would include things like:

  • Personal goal statements
  • How each goal will be achieved
  • Time management plan.
  • Study management plan
  • Motivation statement and explanation
  • Views on gender sensitivity and gender equality
  • Ethical attitude
  • Contribution to DIU and society
  • Gratefulness to the creator for the opportunities of life.

Assessment - For unit -1

Students will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria---

Understanding and performing self evaluation

  • How will they evaluate themselves?
  • Giving examples from own life
  • Learning from those real life examples
  • How to apply it in the future
  • Case studies and incidents where own role will be applied. 

Unit 2 –Develop Social Skills Project Report.

Objective of this unit is to make students understand the country scenario in Bangladesh as a responsible citizen of the country and help the Corporates to develop plans to discharge their social responsibility.

Learning outcome 1: Analyse country scenario and develop plan for social skills development 

Performance criteria: (How you want the candidate to do it.  The number of Performance Criteria is not prescriptive – you can have fewer or more if required)

1.1 Each student will complete a Project Report of around 2500 words with a project title e.g. “Empowering the Disadvantaged through Education”. The students will study life in Bangladesh, read references and brainstorm on ideas of how life can be improved. They will present, defend their ideas and write their ideas to produce a Report.

Unit 3 – Developing Networking Skills through ICT.

Unit summary and entry requirements (if applicable):The objective of this unit is to expose students to enable students to use social media effectively for networking and enable them to learn effective use of it. 

Learning outcome 1: Prepare properly edited articles for use in social media.

1.1 students will collaboratively work in groups of six to produce 12 articles, each article with a logical thread throughout fit for use in a Social Media Blog site.

1.2 Each of the student to edit at least of two articles to ensure correct use of English and clarify of  expressions of ideas.

1.3 Support ideas with concrete and appropriate example evidence of data collected physically or identify and reference.source. 

Learning outcome 2: Demonstrate understanding and use of social media in responsible manner while adding value to it.

Performance criteria: (How you want the candidate to do it.  The number of Performance Criteria is not prescriptive – you can have fewer or more if required).

1.1 Write at least two blogs using interaction and exchange of opinions in a respectful manner. 

1.2 Responds to criticism in a positive and well considered manner.

Learning outcome 3: Create independent network of learners through social media.

Performance criteria: (How you want the candidate to do it.  The number of Performance Criteria is not prescriptive – you can have fewer or more if required).

1.1 Each of the students to create its own thematic blog and generate at least 10 responses.

The topics for the 12 article would be from the following.’

  • Learning – lessons from life
  • Networking – friends for life
  • Benefits of participatory learning and workshop style classes
  • Reflection on how others should be treated
  • Extra-curricular social activities
  • Social project
  • Importance of developing good communication skills in English
  • Importance of ICT skills
  • Ideas and implementation of poverty alleviation projects
  • Goals in life
  • Beauty of the life the Creator has given
  • Importance of gratitude and acknowledging the Creator’s contribution

Each class will be run by collecting ideas on the topic in a participatory manner and ideas represented collaboratively. 60 - 70% of the work should be completed in the class with the remaining 30% done online.
